Purcell Helicopter Skiing Ltd

Heli skiing in the Canadian Rockies. Fabulous mountain landscapes on ì alpine galciers and open slopes as well as in the trees and gladed areas of ì the subalpine forest. Spectacular scenery, pristine snow, diversified ì terrain, you will enjoy the most exclusive, safest heli skiing boarding ì experience possible.
The heli ski options for Banff lie west of Golden and North of the Bugaboos, ì in the Purcell Mountains. These mountains of interior British Columbia are ì famous for their reliable amounts of fresh snow and exceptional powder.

Purcell Heli Skiing offer close to 200 runs with every conceivable type of ì mountain terrain and exposure. Over the years, Purcell Heli-Skiing has ì explored and skied mountain range of the Dogtooth, McMurdo, Spillimacheen, ì Bobbie Burns and Battle Range areas.

Ability Levels:
Skiers should be able to ski groomed blue runs confidently and be physically ì fit in order to get the most out of their heli ski adventure.

Snowboarders need to be advanced and able to board at higher speeds ì comfortably to get the most out of the deep powder conditions.

At times they may provide an extra guide to help balance the skiing and ì boarding abilities within one particular group.

Overall it is easier for skiers to adpt to the conditions at lower ability ì levels versus snowboarders due to the nature of the equipment.

Snow and Weather Conditions:
records from the past years show that conditions are excellent 70%, good 25% ì and marginal 5% of the time. However, the weather does not follow a pattern, ì skiing conditions are unpredictable from one year to the next, from one month ì to the next...

In the mountains, rapid and extreme changes are common. Snowfalls, wind, ì temperatures, sunshine, etc...are continuously affecting the snow quality ì which may vary from deep bottomless powder to just a few centimetres of fresh ì and fluffy snow, to light wind packed or hard crust, to sun crust or corn ì snow.

On days of marginal weather, they will ski in treed areas that provide the ì visability and great skiing/riding.

During the 5 month season, there are only a few days where bad weather ì prevents them from flying.

Equipment:
We recommend the use of Powder skis which are wider and softer than ì conventional / carving skis. The rental shop carries a very good selection of ì fat and mid fat powder skis. (Fischer, Atomic)
Boots need to have a soft flex and be comfortable and warm. We recommend that ì you use your own ski boots.
